The war against charter schools leaves unoccupied school building empty, school buildings that low-income families would love to have accessible in their neighborhoods, according to the Wall Street Journal. The article details just how far Detroit Public Schools Community District is willing to go to ensure that charter schools aren’t able to make more room for families.
At Delta Prep, for example, low-income families must travel out of their community because the non-charter options are unreasonable. According to the Journal, “more than 50% are African-American, and some 65% are from low-income families.”
Is this war really worth making more families suffer? Will those families return to DPSCD? Most likely not! What do you think?
